Christian Pulisic is set to make his first-team return with Borussia Dortmund soon after returning to training.

Christian Pulisic is back in training at Borussia Dortmund having missed the club's previous two Bundesliga matches after picking up a quad strain while on international duty with the United States.

Having sat out Dortmund's last two Bundesliga matches - including their 5-0 defeat to Bayern Munich in last weekend's Der KlassikerPulisic is back in training with the club and nearing a return to the first team.

The 20-year-old was forced off in the USA's 1-1 draw with Chile at the end of March, having scored an early goal in the friendly match in Houston.

The USMNT confirmed that the 20-year-old had been diagnosed with a right quad strain following evaluation in Texas, leading Pulisic to miss Dortmund's 2-0 win over Wolfsburg and then their loss at Bayern.

Pulisic will still most likely miss out on this weekend's match against Mainz at the Signal Iduna Park, with the American winger expected to return to the Dortmund fold by the time his team travel to Freiburg on Matchday 30.

It will come as a major boost to Dortmund coach Lucien Favre's title hopes to bring Pulisic, who – aged 20 years and 189 days – became the youngest ever player to reach 10 goals for the United States thanks to a clever lobbed finish before hobbling off against Chile.

As a result of that loss to Bayern, Dortmund are now second in the table and one point back from the reigning champions in what is proving to be a compelling title race.

Pulisic is looking to sign off from his time in Germany with a league title before moving to English Premier League outfit Chelsea in the summer and, once fully fit, could prove a decisive figure for Dortmund as they go in search of a sixth Bundesliga title.
