Cologne late show holds Düsseldorf

The pressure was on for Fortuna after Werder Bremen closed the gap on the relegation play-off spot to four points with victory over Freiburg on Saturday. Uwe Rosler's side rose to the occasion as Kenan Karaman forced a strong save from Timo Horn, before breaking the deadlock late in the half. Steven Skrzybski made the most of a stray forward pass out of the Cologne defence to set up the chance, which was brilliantly taken from 18 yards for 1-0. The Billy Goats' best opening prior to the goal fell to Ellyes Skhiri, who headed over from a corner.

Cologne upped the ante at the start of the second half, with Florian Kainz making visiting goalkeeper Florian Kastenmeier work for the first time. Zack Steffen's understudy was called on again moments later when Mark Uth struck a post and won a penalty after being brought down by Adam Bodzek as he attempted to reach the follow-up. Uth stepped up to take the ensuing spot-kick, but Kastenmeier guessed correctly and made the save. Fortuna thought they'd won it when Erik Thommy curled in a second on the hour, only for Cologne to score two late goals through Modeste and Cordoba, and rescue an unlikely draw that leaves Düsseldorf three points adrift of safety.
