RB Leipzig have signed Dani Olmo from Dinamo Zagreb, fending off fierce competition to acquire the recent Spain international midfielder to a four-year contract.
Olmo, now 21, surprised many when he swapped Barcelona's La Masia youth academy for Croatia in 2014 at the age of 16, but the move proved to be his making, with his first-team debut following just seven months later.
Now into his fifth season of senior professional football, Olmo earned his first cap for Spain in their 7-0 win over Malta in Euro 2020 qualifying in November, and Leipzig sporting director Markus Krösche is convinced a special player to the squad.
"We are very pleased that despite many offers from other renowned clubs, we were able to convince Dani Olmo that we're the right club for him to take the best possible next step," he explained.
"He's a fantastic player who's technically very dangerous and has outstanding qualities in possession of the ball. He will give us more options in attacking areas and at 21 is far from the end of his development."
Attacking midfielder Olmo, who has been given the No.25 jersey, could make his debut for the Bundesliga leaders on Saturday, when they travel to the Commerzbank Arena to take on 11th-placed Eintracht Frankfurt.
