Currently the rule in German football is for the clock inside stadiums to stop at 90 minuntes.

At their General Assembly on Thursday, the DFL announced that added time will be displayed in full on the big screens at Bundesliga and Bundesliga 2 grounds from next year.

Currently, while the allotted additional time is shown on stadium screens across Germany's top two divisions, the clock itself inside the stadium stops at 45 and 90 minutes played in the first half and second half respectively.

However, from 1 January 2026, the added time will be displayed as it progresses, right up until the final whistle - provided the technical requirements are met.

The DFB's refereeing committee have also agreed to the rule change. The DFL have revealed that the plan is primarily in the best interests of spectators, clubs, players and media representatives.
