Bundesliga
Eintracht Frankfurt and Augsburg picked up their first point of the season from a goalless draw at the Deutsche Bank Arena.
Both teams were still digesting heavy opening-day defeats as they took to the field in the first half, but there was more of a spring in the hosts' step as they were lifted by the return of some of the most passionate fans in Germany to their stadium. Rafael Santos Borre looked poised to celebrate his first Bundesliga goal when he met Jesper Lindström's low cross, but his shot was deflected behind by Felix Uduokhai. Frankfurt continued to do most of the attacking, but it was not until the 38th minute that they finally managed to get a shot on Rafal Gikiewicz's goal, with Jens Petter Hauge's effort saved.
Filip Kostic fizzed in the next effort on Gikiewicz's goal ten minutes into the second half as Frankfurt responded to their vociferous backing. A Lindström free-kick was punched away by the last line of the Augsburg defence as the pressure mounted on the guests. Carlos Gruezo sent a rare shot in on Kevin Trapp's goal, but Frankfurt were soon back on the attack with substitute Daichi Kamada and Borre denied by Gikiewicz. Both sides had conceded five and four goals respectively on the opening day of the season, yet the defences were on top this week with Reece Oxford and Uduokhai formidable at the heart of the Augsburg rearguard, helping Markus Weinzierl's men pick up their first point of the season.
