Reyna rocket not enough for Dortmund in Frankfurt

Borussia Dortmund played out their first Bundesliga draw in almost a year as Daichi Kamada's early goal for Eintracht Frankfurt was cancelled out by Gio Reyna's glorious second-half strike.

Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Borussia Dortmund
Goals: 1-0
Kamada (9'), 1-1 Reyna (56')

Dortmund had not drawn in their previous 27 Bundesliga games while Frankfurt had shared the spoils in their last four, but both sides began with clear ambitions of taking the three points. Mats Hummels was inches from connecting with Jadon Sancho's free-kick into the Frankfurt penalty area, before Filip Kostic dragged a volley just wide. Frankfurt's Erik Durm then fluffed his lines in a one-on-one, with Hummels recovering to block. All that came before the Eagles flew into the lead on just nine minutes - Kamada timing his run perfectly to latch onto Martin Hinteregger's long ball and slot under Roman Bürki. Sancho could well have had Dortmund level with two big chances in the space of a few minutes. The Englishman first clipped the roof of the Frankfurt net with a curling left-footed effort, and then pulled wide when he was picked out in front of goal by Reyna. Aymen Barkok sent a half-volley high over the Dortmund goal from close range as Frankfurt continued to push for a second. Sancho and Reyna were heavily involved in attack, but Lucien Favre's side could only muster one shot on target in the first half.

Youssoufa Moukoko was brought on at the interval in an attempt to spark Dortmund's attack into life. All eyes were on the 16-year-old, who recently became the Bundesliga's youngest ever player, but it was instead 18-year-old Reyna who brought Dortmund level 11 minutes into the second half. Fed by Sancho from the left, the USMNT star cut past Hinteregger before sending a thunderbolt past Kevin Trapp at his near post; a stunning strike into the top corner. BVB looked a changed side thereafter, demonstrating control at the back and purpose in attack. Moukoko stung the hands of Trapp with his first effort on target as Dortmund went in search of a winner, determined not to lose any more ground on Bayern Munich and RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga title race, especially with the top two playing each other later on Saturday. But the game petered out in the closing stages, and neither side came close to snatching victory as they were forced to settle for a point.
