Silva scores maiden goal in dramatic Dortmund draw

Going into the game, Dortmund hadn't lost to Frankfurt since November 2016 and they immediately looked like further extending that record as Axel Witsel cooly slotted home the opener after just 10 minutes. It followed superb work from Sancho and Achraf Hakimi on the right, who were both a menacing threat throughout the first half. Despite Dortmund enjoying the better of things, the hosts - spurred on by a superb atmosphere at the Commerzbank-Arena - were level on the stroke of half time thanks to Silva's superbly clinical finish. It was the Portuguese's first goal for the club and only Frankfurt's second first-half goal in the Bundesliga this season.

The second half began in barnstorming fashion with first Erik Durm and then Sancho going close to putting their respective sides in front within seconds of each other just a minute after the restart. From then on, two superb defensive displays took hold as both sides struggled to break down the other and create chances of note until Sancho buried home from close range after Witsel's clever pass after a free-kick. It was the England international's fourth goal of the campaign and looked to have sealed victory for the Black and Yellows until Daichi Kamada's drilled ball across goal was deflected home by Thomas Delaney in the dying seconds to salvage a dramatic point for Frankfurt.

• Witsel scored a goal and provided an assist in the same Bundesliga game for the first time.
• Sancho now has 16 Bundesliga goals in his career and is the youngest player ever to reach that total, surpassing Horst Köppel.
• Five of Frankfurt’s six goals this season have been scored by forwards Goncalo Paciencia (three), Bas Dost and Silva (one each).
• Silva’s goal was his first for Frankfurt and his first in club football since January when he netted for Sevilla against Levante in Spain.
• Frankfurt have now taken points off Dortmund on each of their last six Bundesliga visits to the Commerzbank-Arena.
