Stindl hat-trick trumps Silva brace

Lars Stindl completed his hat-trick in added time to cancel out Andre Silva's brace and rescue a point for Borussia Mönchengladbach against 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt.

Eintracht Frankfurt 3-3 Borussia Mönchengladbach
Goals: 0-1 Stindl (14'), 1-1 Silva (pen. 22'), 2-1 Silva (24'), 3-1 Barkok (32'), 3-2 Stindl (pen. 82'), 3-3 Stindl (90'+5)
Red card: Abraham (82')

Gladbach's Matthias Ginter had already blown a glorious close-range opportunity when captain Stindl broke the deadlock with a thumping free-kick. That was about as good as it got for the visitors in the first half, though, with Silva restoring penalty from the penalty spot after Stefan Lainer was adjudged to have handled from Martin Hinteregger. Absent through injury in last Friday's 2-1 defeat to Wolfsburg, Silva made up for lost time with a quite brilliant second goal 120 seconds later. The Portugal international took Aymen Barkok's flighted through-ball in his stride, and lashed under Yann Sommer with aplomb. Silva didn't take long to return the favour, teeing up Barkok, who rolled Nico Elvedi and Ginter before side-footing into the bottom corner.

Erik Durm cleared off the line from Alassane Plea early in the second half, but Frankfurt otherwise appeared to be in complete control of proceedings. The Eagles should have been out of sight on the hour when Hinteregger and Silva combined to tee up Amin Younes, who failed to test Sommer from inside the area. Substitute Dominik Kohr had a penalty decision overturned by the VAR, with the referee instead awarding Frankfurt a free-kick, which Barkok whipped just past the upright. Gladbach were given a lifeline when David Abraham was sent off following a second bookable offence with little under 10 minutes of normal time remaining. Stindl duly reduced the arrears from the penalty spot following Barkok's foul on Breel Embolo, before heading in from Ibrahima Traore to leave Frankfurt winless in nine Bundesliga matches.
