Rafael Borre opened his Bundesliga account as Eintracht Frankfurt came from behind to earn a point in a 1-1 draw at home to Cologne.
Eintracht Frankfurt 1-1 Cologne
Goals: 0-1 Skhiri (14’), 1-1 Borre (45’+6)
Frankfurt began the day as one of three teams without a Bundesliga win this season, and things didn’t get off to a good start as they lost Erik Durm to possible concussion inside 10 minutes after a collision with Florian Kainz. Cologne then took advantage as Ellyes Skhiri ghosted in front of substitute Danny da Costa to turn home Jonas Hector’s low cross into the six-yard box. Eintracht’s only shot of the regulation 45 minutes came from a Sam Lammers header that failed to hit the target, while the Billy Goats mustered up nine attempts. But many interruptions for players requiring lengthy treatment saw eight minutes added on, with Frankfurt finally finding their groove in the sixth. Filip Kostic ran away down the left and picked out Borre with the low cut-back. The Colombian made no mistake from 18 yards to level proceedings and open his Eintracht account following his summer move.
The visitors thought they’d retaken the lead 10 minutes into the second half when Kainz used the referee’s advantage after Anthony Modeste was taken down in the box, but a VAR check back in Cologne spotted that the Frenchman was fractionally offside in the build-up. It seemed to spark the home team and support into life. Substitute Daichi Kamada narrowly missed out on a diving header and looked to have added real impetus. Martin Hinteregger then stung the hands of Timo Horn in the Cologne goal for his first save of note in the game, but there was no further breakthrough at Deutsche Bank Park. Frankfurt remain winless in the league this season, but are unbeaten in their last five outings. Cologne move onto eight points as they continue their best start to a top-flight campaign since 2016/17.
