Omar Marmoush and Eintracht Frankfurt celebrated an important record in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday.

Eintracht Frankfurt's 2-1 win over FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday was not only their fourth victory in five league phase outings this season, it also meant they equalled a long-standing European record set by Chelsea.

The result extended the Eagles' unbeaten sequence in the Europa League to 18 games, matching the best mark set by the English Premier League club.

Indeed, the last time Frankfurt lost in the competition was a 1-0 reverse against FC Basel on 6 August 2020 in their round of 16 second leg.

Marmoush was on target from the penalty spot in Frankfurt's win over Midtjylland.

Since then they have won 12 - a run that includes them lifting the trophy in the 2021/22 season - and drawn six. It is all the more impressive considering Eintracht have faced teams of the calibre of Barcelona, West Ham and Olympiacos, among others, during that time.

"The record and the win are great but they're the result of hard work and some mature performances," said captain Kevin Trapp after full time against Midtjylland.

"We can be happy with what we've achieved and have taken a big step towards the knockout rounds. We're putting in some commanding performances and always look like we can score."

One man in particular has played a major role in Frankfurt's attacking prowess: Omar Marmoush. The 25-year-old, who has 11 goals and seven assists in the Bundesliga so far this season, has another five direct goal contributions (three scored) in the Europa League this term, and three (one goal) in the DFB Cup.

In total, the Egypt international has been directly involved in 26 goals (15 scored) in 18 competitive appearances.

Frankfurt are currently third in the league phase table of the Europa League with 13 points from five games, behind only Lazio and Athletic Bilbao on goal difference. Their next opponents in the competition are Olympique Lyon, Ferencváros and AS Roma as they bid to book a place in the knockout rounds.
