Dost off the mark as Frankfurt beat Düsseldorf

New Eintracht Frankfurt signing Bas Dost came off the bench to help the Eagles record a come-from-behind 2-1 victory at home to Fortuna Düsseldorf in the Matchday 3 curtain-closer on Sunday.

Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 Fortuna Düsseldorf
Goals: 0-1 Hennings (36'), 1-1 Dost (57'), 2-1 Paciencia (86')

Frankfurt were playing their ninth competitive match in a month after their efforts in UEFA Europa League qualifying, but there were no signs of tired legs in the early exchanges as both teams looked to draw first blood. Dawid Kownacki had the ball in the home side's net in the fourth minute, but it was ruled for a foul in the build-up. Fortuna did edge ahead eventually though, when Rouwen Hennings expertly guided Alfredo Morales' cross from the left into the bottom corner. Daichi Kamada had Frankfurt's best chance of the half, but volleyed wide from 15 yards out with the goal at his mercy.

Eagles coach Adi Hütter responded by bringing Dost off the bench for the second period and his impact was almost instant, thundering a close-range header into the net from Goncalo Paciencia's cross. The towering Dutch striker almost grabbed a second shortly afterwards, but headed over the bar after being found by Danny da Costa. Frankfurt had the best of the chances as both teams looked for a winner: Paciencia flashed an effort wide of the post before Kamada had a good volley well saved by Zack Steffen. The match appeared to be heading for a draw until da Costa's determined run took him into the box, where he found Paciencia, who kept his cool to slot in the winner and lift Frankfurt up to seventh in the table.
