Frankfurt fend off Paderborn despite late fightback

Bas Dost, Sebastian Rode and Andre Silva were all on target as Eintracht Frankfurt edged Paderborn with a 3-2 win at the Commerzbank Arena.

Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 Paderborn
Goals: 1-0 Rode (9'), 2-0 Silva (33'), 3-0 Dost (52'), 3-1 Dräger (55'), 3-2 Michel (75')

Eintracht only missed out on qualification for next season's UEFA Europa League following last Saturday's 1-1 draw at Cologne, but Die Adler nonetheless had the wind beneath their wings against already-relegated Paderborn. On the front foot from the off, Adi Hütter's men took the lead when Rode steered the ball into the far corner of Leopold Zingerle's goal from the edge of the visitors' box. Sven Michel tried to get Paderborn back on level terms with a chip from range but Frankfurt keeper Kevin Trapp was wide awake to the danger. Frankfurt then doubled their advantage midway through the half when Danny da Costa left Silva with a tap-in.

The second half was only seven minutes old when Eintracht made it three. Dominik Kohr got free down the right and cut back for Dost, who was left with another simple finish. Paderborn pulled one back soon after when Marlon Ritter selflessly passed for Mo Dräger to finish beyond a prone Trapp. Michel pulled another goal back for Paderborn, rounding off a fine counter-attacking move after Djibril Sow had been casual in possession, but it proved to be too little too late for Steffen Baumgart's men as it ended 3-2. Paderborn return to Bundesliga 2 after a single-season stay in the top flight; Frankfurt concluded the campaign in ninth.
