Adi Hütter (r.) has agreed to join Borussia Mönchengladbach as head coach, the Eintract Frankfurt man replacing Marco Rose (l.) this summer.

Adi Hütter will leave Eintracht Frankfurt at the end of the season to succeed Borussia Dortmund-bound Marco Rose as Borussia Mönchengladbach head coach.

Gladbach, who announced Rose's departure for Dortmund on 15 February, have kitted out Hütter with a three-year deal through to June 2024.

"We're very happy about Adi Hütter's acceptance," said Borussia's sporting director Max Eberl. "For our team and our club, he's the best coach for the challenges and goals that lie ahead of us from the summer."

Hütter, 51, won three Austrian Bundesliga titles, the Supercup and reached the 1993/94 UEFA Cup final as a player with Austria Salzburg, before returning to the club under their Red Bull moniker as senior coach in 2014. He won a domestic double in his only season in charge, and helped Young Boys to their first Swiss Super League title since 1986 three years later.

Joining Frankfurt in summer 2018, the former Austria international guided the club to the UEFA Europa League semi-finals and to within four points of a top-four finish in his debut season at the helm. The Eagles finished ninth the following year, but are fourth at the business end of the 2020/21 Bundesliga campaign, with a six-point cushion on fifth place.

Portugal international Andre Silva (l.) has hit career-best numbers for goals under Hütter (r.) in 2020/21.

"I didn't take the decision lightly," said Hütter. "I've experienced three unbelievably successful and intense years that I, together with the team, want to end on a high. It's a chance for us to make history. All that matters to me now is the success of Eintracht. We want to consolidate our position in the table and qualify for the Champions League."
