Haaland overtakes Davies as Bundesliga’s fastest player

Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland set a new Bundesliga speed record on Saturday in his side’s 3-2 win over VfB Stuttgart.

The 20-year-old was clocked at 22.39 mph (36.04 km/h) at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, giving him the fastest time of any player in Germany’s top flight this season.

In so doing he squeezed past the previous incumbent, Bayern Munich’s Alphonso Davies, who had held the best mark at 22.33 mph (35.9 km/h). Bayern winger Kingsley Coman rounds out the top three at 22.17 mph (35.68 km/h).

Haaland’s jet-heeled sprint puts him in second place in the Bundesliga’s all-time standings. On Matchday 32 of last season, Davies reached a speed of 22.7mph (36.53 kmph), overtaking former Dortmund defender Achraf Hakimi's previous league-wide best of 22.49mph (36.16 kmph) and officially making him the fastest player in Germany's top flight since detailed data collection began in 2011.
