Hertha Berlin have completed the signing of English full-back Jonjoe Kenny from Everton on a free transfer.

Kenny returns to the Bundesliga, having spent the 2019/20 season on loan at Schalke. The 25-year-old has signed a contract through to summer 2025, after 16 years on the books of boyhood club Everton.

"The club made it clear how much they wanted me," Kenny told the Hertha website. "I'm pleased to be here. I'm looking forward to playing for this club, seeing the fans and moving to this city."

Kenny featured in 31 Premier League matches for Everton between 2017 and 2019, before enjoying a successful season-long loan at Schalke. The former England U21 international played in 31 Bundesliga matches that season, registering two goals and three assists from right-back, and winning the August 2019 Rookie of the Month award.

Kenny made 15 English Premier League appearances for Everton last term, including six at left-back, and had been offered a new deal to extend his lengthy association with the Merseyside outfit. He also had loan spells at Oxford United, Celtic and Wigan Athletic, and captained Everton's youth teams.

"Jonjoe is a player that will bring some fresh impetus and pace into our game," commented Hertha sporting director Fredi Bobic. "He's gained experience in both the Premier League and the Bundesliga, plus he still has the potential to develop further aged just 25. We could sense how excited he was to join Hertha during the talks."
