Key stats

By the time he signed for Wolves in September 2020, Silva had become Porto's youngest-ever debutant and goalscorer as well as a UEFA Youth League winner. The striker had also been part of the Dragões' league and cup double-winning side of 2019/20, weighing in with a combined three goals in 15 appearances across both competitions.

Silva burst onto the scene as a youngster at Porto.

From the 2022/23 campaign on, Wolves decided to send Silva out on a series of loans. He first featured for Anderlecht, before spending the second half of that season at PSV Eindhoven. Coming on in the KNVB Cup final in extra-time against Ajax, Silva subsequently netted the winning spot-kick in the penalty shootout.

His time at subsequent loan side Las Palmas was even more fruitful, with the Portuguese striker chipping in with 13 goal involvements (10 goals, three assists) in Spain's La Liga. A winning strike in the Canary Islanders' 2-1 win away to Barcelona was a major highlight from his time in Spain.

Having played for Portugal at youth level all the way up from the nation's U15s, Silva made his senior international bow in a 1-1, UEFA Nations League draw against Croatia last November. His record in the youth ranks speaks for itself, with a total of 34 goals for Portugal's age group teams. For the U21s alone, Silva scored 15 in 28 appearances.

Plays a bit like: Paco Alcácer

Back in 2018/19, Dortmund were celebrating the arrival of another Iberian striker in Alcácer, who burst out of the goalscoring blocks to become a cult hero at the Signal Iduna Park.

The ex-Spain international scored 18 goals in just 26 Bundesliga games that season and his profile is not dissimilar to Silva's, whose expert finishing, pace between the lines and super-sharp instincts might bring back fond memories of prime Paco for BVB fans.

Silva's father and brother - both called Jorge - were also successful professional footballers. Silva senior won a title at Portuguese side Boavista, while Jorge junior emerged from the youth systems of both Porto and Benfica before moving to Italian giants Lazio. A centre-back, Fábio's elder brother is now with AVC Vogherese in Italy's fourth-tier.

What they're saying

"What is most important, is what you can expect from me and that's hard work, humility, respect for my teammates and the desire to learn from them." - Silva on his arrival at Wolves

“This club has tremendous prestige, not just in Germany but throughout Europe. I know BVB are a passionate club with incredible fans. To now be part of it myself fills me with pride and excitement. I want to settle in quickly, give everything I have, and do my part to help the team be successful.” - Silva again, this time after signing for BVB

"Fabio brings a lot of quality: goal threat, intensity, pace, and he can be used flexibly in multiple positions. All of this, along with the fact that he is a hard-working, success-driven striker, makes this transfer extremely valuable for us." - Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl
