Bundesliga
Harry Kane scoring the goals for Bayern Munich and plundering the Fantasy points for managers might have been expected, but there are a few surprises in the Team of the Season so far…
>>> How did your team fare this season?
The curtain has come down on 2023/24 in the Bundesliga. We've already got a Team of the Season as voted by you, but what do the Fantasy points tell us about the campaign?
bundesliga.com looks at the 11 top-scoring players in a legal formation - which in this case means a 3-4-3…
Goalkeeper
Oliver Baumann (Hoffenheim), 239 points
Baumann is once again proof that you never quite know where the best goalkeeper to have in Fantasy will come from. In the past we’ve had keepers from teams fighting to stay up, sometimes from those at the very top. This year it’s from seventh-placed Hoffenheim, who actually conceded more than relegated Cologne. Baumann may have let in 66 goals, managed only two clean sheets – none at home, we add – but it’s from saving shots that he earned the vast majority of his Fantasy points. The 33-year-old topped the Bundesliga for saves (157), including three penalties out of five faced. He even got an assist this term! A place in the Fantasy Team of the Season is surely now the icing on the cake for Baumann’s Germany call-up for this summer’s Euros.
Defenders
Jeremie Frimpong (Bayer Leverkusen), 368 points
Frimpong quickly became one of the first names on most Fantasy teamsheets as soon as it became clear that he was going to have a very attacking role in Leverkusen’s eventual title-winning side. The 23-year-old right-sider opened the campaign with a goal and assist, going on to finish with nine and seven respectively. Even then, most of his Fantasy points came from shots (53), passes to a shot (45) and duels won (224).

David Raum (RB Leipzig), 287 points
After a disappointing first season at Leipzig where he only provided two assists, Raum found his feet this term and set up eight goals for the fourth-placed side. The left-back also chipped in with two goals, but it was his creativity that earned him the most Fantasy points, with 68 passes to a shot placing him the division’s top 10. A total of 251 challenges won also helped account for almost a quarter of his points.
Alejandro Grimaldo (Bayer Leverkusen), 503 points
We’ll talk about record debut campaigns shortly with Kane, but you cannot forget Grimaldo’s efforts in his first year in the Bundesliga. The Spaniard is the first player ever to break the 500-point mark in Fantasy thanks to his division-topping 13 assists plus 10 goals, making him the top attacking outlet for champions Leverkusen. His 74 shots was the same number as Leroy Sané, but earned more Fantasy points as a defender. The 28-year-old also provided 74 passes to a shot to add to his monster haul. Well done, Álex!

Xavi Simons (RB Leipzig), 370 points
Xavi also had a superb maiden Bundesliga campaign, impressing viewers from start to finish during his loan spell from Paris Saint-Germain. The 21-year-old was Leipzig’s top provider with 11 assists – only Grimaldo managed more across the division – and chipped in with eight goals – seven of which put Die Roten Bullen 1-0 up. Creating chances was where he really stood out, with 83 passes to a shot bettered by only Kevin Stöger and Franck Honorat across Germany’s top flight.

Jonas Hofmann (Bayer Leverkusen), 286 points
Hofmann was the top points scorer in Fantasy last season while at Borussia Mönchengladbach. He hasn’t managed to shine quite as brightly at Leverkusen but has still been impressive enough to crack the top XI for 2023/24. The 31-year-old chalked up five goals and seven assists, although 10 of those came across a blistering opening 12 matchdays. While the headline stats haven’t been as big since then, he’s still beavered away for the champions when called upon, with only Xavi, Honorat and Stöger setting up more chances in the Bundesliga this past term.
Kevin Stöger (Bochum), 356 points
Stöger is that one gem every Fantasy manager hopes to find before everyone else each season. Bochum may have finished third from bottom, but their Austrian midfielder enjoyed a very productive campaign. Seven goals and nine assists mean he was directly involved in as many goals as Jamal Musiala, for example, but no player across all 18 teams had a hand in as many attempts on goal as Stöger with 195 – 14 more than Kane. The 30-year-old ranked 11th for shots (75) but was miles out in front for passes to a shot with 120 (Honorat second with 84). Costing only 14M by the end of the season, Stöger was a real boon for those who backed him.
Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen), 376 points
There was little argument against Wirtz being voted the Bundesliga’s Player of the Season on the back of his efforts in leading Leverkusen to a maiden title. The 21-year-old playmaker reached double figures for goals and assists with 11 each – both personal bests, while no midfielder scored more this season. His 73 passes to a shot accounted for another big source of Fantasy points, which no doubt could’ve been much higher if he hadn’t been rested a lot in the final weeks with the title already won.

Serhou Guirassy (VfB Stuttgart), 356 points
Guirassy was another player who very few had on their radar before the season, but people soon took notice when the Stuttgart striker smashed 10 goals from the first five games. It set the tone for both player and club as VfB pipped Bayern to second and Guirassy netted at a rate of one every 80 minutes he played. A return of 28 goals (from as many games) set a new club record, surpassing Mario Gómez’s 24 in 2008/09. Twelve of them put VfB 1-0 up, equalling the Bundesliga record in the process. The Guinea international missed six games due to injury and Africa Cup of Nations duty. Could he have pushed Kane even closer if he’d played those fixtures? Either way, it was enough to force his way into both this Team of the Season and the real-life one.

Harry Kane (Bayern Munich), 457 points
You suspect Kane would’ve finished on more than the 36 goals he already got if he’d been fit enough for the final two games, but it was still a remarkable return to claim this season’s top-scorer crown. It was both a new personal best in a league campaign for him and the most ever by a player in their first year in the Bundesliga, coming from only 32 appearances. A division-leading 145 shots also bolstered his Fantasy tally handsomely, which included bonus points for scoring multiple goals in nine different matches, including four hat-tricks.

Loïs Openda (RB Leipzig), 358 points
Openda makes it four Bundesliga debutants in this top XI. The Belgian was the only Leipzig player to feature in all 34 games, ending the campaign third in the division scoring chart on 24 goals, plus seven assists. His 118 attempts on goal accounted for nearly a third of his Fantasy total that rounds off an excellent maiden Bundesliga campaign for the 24-year-old.
