Berlin native Felix Zwayer will referee the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur.

German referee Felix Zwayer will oversee the 2024/25 UEFA Europa League final between English Premier League clubs Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United at the Estadio de San Manés in Bilbao on 21 May.

The game will be Zwayer's second appearance in the Europa League this season. He also officiated seven UEFA Champions League matches, including the semi-final second leg between Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal.

His team will be made up of assistants Robert Kempter and Christian Dietz, as well as Italian fourth official Maurizio Mariani. Italian Daniele Bindoni will act as reserve assistant referee (commonplace in finals), while German referee Bastian Dankert will serve as the video assistant referee (VAR), with Benjamin Brand his assistant. Similar to Bindoni’s role, Spaniard Carlos Del Cerro Grande is set to be on VAR support duty.

Knut Kircher, DFB (German Football Association) Managing Director of Sport and Communication, heaped praise onto Zwayer and his compatriots, saying: “Congratulations to Felix, Robert, Christian, Bastian and Benjamin. All five have earned their nominations through fantastic performances at national and international level. Such a nomination is not only an honour for Felix and his team, but also for the German refereeing system as a whole.

"The fact that the VAR team is also made up of DFB referees, Bastian Dankert and Benjamin Brand, is testament to the outstanding work we do in European competition. We wish Felix and his team every success for this prestigious match between Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.”

For Zwayer, this is his second time in charge of a major European final, having previously overseen the 2022/23 UEFA Nations League final. Another highlight of his international career also came at UEFA Euro, where he took charge of England's semi-final win over the Netherlands. In total, the Berlin-born referee has officiated 86 matches in UEFA club competitions to date.
