Bayern Munich's hopes of qualifying automatically for the UEFA Champions League round of 16 hang in the balance following a 3-0 defeat to Feyenoord.
Feyenoord 3-0 Bayern Munich
Goals: 1-0 Giménez 21’ (assist: Smal), 2-0 Giménez (pen.) 45’+9, 3-0 Ueda 89' (assist: Milambo)
Having recovered from back-to-back defeats last October in the tournament’s league phase, Bayern appeared to be on course for qualification following three subsequent wins against Benfica, Paris Saint-Germain and Shakhtar Donetsk. Added to that, Vincent Kompany’s side took to Rotterdam on the back of four straight Bundesliga victories. Yet the hosts – two points behind their German opponents before kick-off – had their own designs on advancing to the knockout stages and that ambition was in full evidence as the rain teemed down on the famous De Kuip stadium. To the delight of the locals, Brian Priske’s side edged ahead in the 21st minute when Mexican forward Santiago Giménez expertly controlled Gijs Smal’s long pass over the top before smashing past Manuel Neuer. The energetic Kingsley Coman and Harry Kane tried in vain to level things up, but Bayern’s night would take another turn for the worse when Alphonso Davies pulled up with a muscle problem. His replacement, Raphaël Guerreiro, upended Calvin Stengs in the away area shortly after coming on and Giménez doubled the Eredivisie team’s lead from the spot.
The last time Feyenoord faced Bundesliga opposition here, Bayer Leverkusen ran out 4-0 winners at the start of this season’s revamped competition. Bayern looked to take some inspiration from their domestic rivals as they sought a way back into this encounter. Starting his first game following a recent bout of flu, Jamal Musiala turned up the heat before feeding Kane, whose shot was thwarted by Justin Bijlow. The home goalkeeper’s impressive night continued soon afterwards when he pushed Musiala’s close-range header over the top. Kompany threw Leroy Sané – a player with 23 career Champions League goals – into the mix and the Bayern No.10 looked set to add to his European tally when teed up by Kane. However, Sané could only nod against the upright with the goal at his mercy. The home side took full advantage of Bayern’s profligacy, with Ayase Ueda adding a third before the end. The Bavarians slipped to 15th in the 36-team standings as result and will need to beat Slovan Bratislava in their final league phase game to have any chance of advancing automatically to the last 16.

As it happened!
Bayern will want this to end now. It's been a miserable night at De Kuip.
It's a fabulous goal and finish from Ueda, who latches onto a central pass in behind the defence before racing into the Bayern box and coolly slotting beyond Neuer. It's 3-0 to Feyenoord now – no way back from here for Bayern.
Youth makes way for experience as Müller enters the fray.
Moussa and Paixão come off for Ueda and Bueno.
Mitchell races down the right wing after a long clearance, pursued by Upamecano. He gets to it first before shooting from a tight angle. It goes wide of the far post but it's a reminder to Bayern that they can't abandon defending just yet.
Things are getting a little more desperate for Bayern, who are starting to take more pot shots at goal. Goretzka looses a wild effort over the bar when a little more composure might have been called for.
Nieuwkoop makes way for Mitchell.
Kane twists a defender on the left-hand side of the box before lofting a cross to the back post. Sané is completely alone there but can only aim a header at the foot of the post when scoring looked easier.
Kane is found inside the area with space to pull the trigger but Hancko sticks a back leg out to block the shot somehow. This is seriously stubborn defending from the home side. How long can they keep this up?
Kimmich whips in a cross but it's fisted away by the 'keeper. It drops outside the box to Upamecano, who curls one towards the right post. A double deflection carries it agonisingly wide and out for a corner.
The Mexican charges in behind the Bayern defence and into the box. He goes to pull the trigger but Upamecano recovers just in time to rob the ball. Could have been game over.
Fresh legs in defence and attack for Vincent Kompany's side. They have to up the tempo now.
Kimmich, wide on the right, whips in a trademark cross, with plenty of whip and curl on it. Musiala rises highest in a crowded penlatz area and aims a strong header at goal. It's a great effort but it's too central and Bijlow pushes it over his own bar.
Sané collects a pass with space on the left wing and feeds the ball down the line for a rampant Kimmich. But it's overhit and runs out for a corner, despite Kimmich's best efforts. Poor play from Bayern.
Musiala picks the pocket of a defender in the Feyenoord half and slaloms his way towards goal. He picks out Kane on the left of the area and the English smashes a shot at goal, but Bijlow makes himself nice and big and the ball ricochets behind for a corner.
Nadje comes in for the injured Stengs.
The Frenchman saunters down the left flank unchallenged before cutting inside and unleashing a powerful shot from just outside the area. It's high and it's wayward. They'll need to do a lot better than that to save this game.
The Germans have averaged over three goals a game this season in the Bundesliga. They'll need to maintain that here if they're to get three points out of this game.
Feyenoord get us back underway at De Kuip. Bayern have it all to do this half.
Superb penalty from Giménez, who smashes his effort to the left-hand side and into the net. Neuer goes the right way but the shot is just too powerful. Feyenoord well in charge here.
A lightening counter from a Bayern corner sees the home side storm up the field in numbers. Guerreiro makes a sloppy challenge in the box, barging into Stengs from behind and the referee points to the spot.
Bad news for Bayern, who are forced to sub off a visibly in pain Davies, who has to be helped off the field.
Kimmich jogs over to the left to swing in another corner but it's headed away thunderously by a defender to a huge cheer around De Kuip. The next resulting corner is also cleared.
It's bodies-in-the-box stuff from Feyenoord, who throw themselves at every header and shot Bayern throw their way. They're desperately hanging on for that half-time whistle.
The fourth official signals for a whopping seven minutes of added time – courtesy of the flare smog that caused an early stoppage.
Bayern should be level. Laimer plays a lovely ball down the right for Olise, who cuts a brilliant cross inside to Kane. The Englishman has space to shoot inside the area and looks certain to score. His shot pounds into the ground en route to goal but Bijlow reacts superbly to deny him.
Laimer wriggles though a challenge on the right and works his way into the Feyenoord area. He tries to find Kane at the front post but his cross is blocked and the ball goes out.
The Germans have enjoyed 78 percent possession so far at De Kuip, but find themselves behind thanks to sloppy defending.
Coman bursts past his defender on the left flank and scurries into the Feyenoord area. He's not got many options inside so he elects to shoot. It's low and hard but the angle is tight and Bijlow gets low to prevent the equaliser. Great play from the Frenchman.
Bayern's talisman wriggles in possession to create room to shoot, but he's off balance and his attempt is bending away from goal as it flies past the left post.
The home side enjoy a period in possession, knocking the ball around De Kuip smartly. They're not going to make life easy for Bayern tonight.
The Bayern winger receives the ball on the left before cutting inside his marker and driving a low shot at goal. It's an awkward height, bouncing just in front of the 'keeper, but he deals with it well.
Kimmich bends a corner to the back post, where it's met by Upamecano. The big Frenchman heads scruffily wide when he really should make more of the opportunity.
Feyenoord defender Smal sends a searching long ball over the Bayern defence and Kim makes a hash of dealing with it. It drops kindly into the path of Giménez, who takes a touch into the Bayern box before slamming a shot beyond Neuer. Fantastic finish!
Feyenoord skipper Hancko is the first player to go in the referee's book for a push from behind on a rampant Laimer. Bayern get a free kick wide on the right. It's whipped in by Kimmich but punched to safety by the goalkeeper.
Kimmich fizzes in a corner and it's an awkward one for Bijlow, who has to punch it away as if its a shot at goal. Bayern hog the ball inside the Feyenoord half for a stretch.
Davies is caught in possession inside the Bayern area and Giménez is gifted a chance to shoot from a tight angle. Thankfully for them, Upamecano is on hand to block behind for a corner.
Enough smoke has dispersed for the referee to re-start the game.
