EURO 2024
France will play Spain in the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-finals, after getting the better of Portugal on penalties in Hamburg.
Portugal 0-0 France (France win 5-3 on pens.)
Following Spain's dramatic quarter-final win over hosts Germany in Stuttgart, the action shifted north to the Volksparkstadion. Rafael Leão was at the heart of Portugal's best work in a competitive first half, but Mike Maignan was largely untested in the France goal. Bruno Fernandes and Vitinha did draw strong saves from the France No.1 after the restart, sparking France into life at the other end. Rúben Dias slide in to prevent former Eintracht Frankfurt forward Randal Kolo Muani, before Eduardo Camavinga fired narrowly wide from a tight angle. Portugal substitute João Félix found the side netting and Nuno Mendes shot tamely at Maignan in a nervy period of extra time, leaving penalties to determine the winner. France prevailed, with Félix's spot-kick against the woodwork decisive.
