Home is where the heart is: Bayern Munich's Franck Ribery plans to return to Bavaria when his playing days are up.

Franck Ribery has intimated he could return to Bayern Munich in some capacity when he calls time on his playing career.

Ribery, 35, will end his 12-year association with the club at the end of the 2018/19 campaign, but says he will continue to play professionally elsewhere for another two seasons.

The Frenchman eventually plans to return to Munich to live, though he has already discussed a future role back at Bayern with club president Uli Hoeneß.

"I’m definitely going to keep playing, but it’s too early to say where yet," Ribery told the Bayern website. "But I’ll definitely be coming back to Munich - 100 per cent. My family and I are really happy here.

"We’ll have to see what happens after that, but I definitely want to be where I feel at home. That’s the most important thing."

Whatever the future holds, Ribery’s legacy is already set in stone. Bayern’s record non-German appearance-maker is one of five players to have won eight Bundesliga titles, but will claim the outright record if the defending champions can hold off Borussia Dortmund in their final two games of the season.

"There have been some massive players here, but if I can be the first player to win nine it’d be incredible," said Ribery, who scored his first Bundesliga goal of 2019 and 85th overall as Bayern tightened their grip on first place with victory over Hannover last weekend. "It’d be historic!"

Ribery is expected to be in the squad when Bayern travel to RB Leipzig on Saturday, chasing the win that would see them crowned Bundesliga champions for the seventh season in a row.
