Freiburg survived a late scare against Basel to get their 2025/26 UEFA Europa League campaign off to a winning start at the Europa-Park Stadion.

Freiburg shaded a first half of few chances, thanks to Patrick Osterhage's thunderous finish with little over 30 minutes gone.
Maximilian Eggestein headed in Vincenzo Grifo's cross shortly after the restart to put Julian Schuster's team on course for victory.
Philip Otele did manage to halve the deficit with six minutes of normal time remaining, but Freiburg held on for all three points.
Die Breisgauer visit Italian outfit Bologna in their second league phase fixture on 2 October.
