Nils Petersen scored two to go into double figures for a third straight season as Freiburg defeated relegated Nuremberg 5-1.
Freiburg 5-1 Nuremberg
Goals: 1-0 Terrazzino (7'), 2-0 Waldschmidt (34'), 3-0 Petersen (54'), 4-0 Petersen (56'), 5-0 Grifo (61'), 5-1 Löwen (69')
Freiburg made a bright start and they went in front early on when Marco Terrazzino burst through the Nuremberg defence, leaving them like statues before shooting low into the bottom left-hand corner. Luca Waldschmidt was the provider for that goal and he almost added one of his own midway through the half when he brought a fine save out of Christian Mathenia. Mathenia was caught out by a deflection on Waldschmidt's next attempt on goal, which consequently changed direction and was just beyond the Nuremberg goalkeeper's reach as it flew in.
That put Waldschmidt a goal ahead of Nils Petersen in an internal battle to end the season as Freiburg's top-scorer, but that changed in the space of two second-half minutes. Petersen benefited from a deflection of his own to wrong-foot Mathenia and score Freiburg's third before his acrobatic effort from Pascal Stenzel's cross put him one goal ahead of his team-mate on ten for the season. Vincenzo Grifo got in on the act with Freiburg's fifth, converting Christan Günter's cross from close range. Löwen grabbed a consolation with a volley
