10-man Paderborn win 2-0 at Freiburg

Christopher Antwi-Adjei scored his first Bundesliga goal for Paderborn and Abdelhamid Sabiri converted a late penalty as Steffen Baumgart's men pulled off the bottom of the table, for 24 hours at least, with a 2-0 win at European aspirants Freiburg.

Red card: Collins (59')

Freiburg may have started the afternoon in seventh, two points off the final European spot and 17 points and 11 places better off than their relegation-threatened visitors, but there was precious little to choose between the sides in the first half. Good feet from Kwon Chang-hoon - starting for the second consecutive week ahead of Germany forward Luca Waldschmidt - created the first chance for Freiburg, but the South Korean's cross was headed tamely at goal by Robin Koch. The hosts had more of the ball in the opening 45 minutes and their failure to make it tell night have been punished towards the end of the half, but Dennis Srbeny, Kai Pröger and Sebastian Vasiliadis all fired off-target from range, and Christian Dingert's half-time whistle went with the deadlock firmly intact.

Freiburg coach Christian Streich sent Vincenzo Grifo on for the second half in place of Amir Abrashi, but it was Paderborn who found an extra gear in the final third once play got back underway, and they pulled into the lead when Antwi-Adjei latched onto Pröger's through-ball, fended off Jonathan Schmid and slid the opener under home goalkeeper Alexander Schwolow. Srbeny should have made it 2-0 minutes later, but his first-time effort from Antwi-Adjei's cutback flew wide. Paderborn had to defend their lead for the final half hour with 10 men after left-back Jamilu Collins was given his marching orders for a second bookable offence. Waldschmidt replaced Kwon for the final 20 minutes as Freiburg looked to take full advantage of their numerical superiority, but Paderborn extended their lead from the penalty spot though Sabiri late on and it ended 2-0.

Abdelhamid Sabiri scored a penalty late on to seal all three points for the 10-men of Paderborn.
