Freiburg 3-3 Wolfsburg
Goals: 0-1 Roussillon (11’), 1-1 Grifo (37’), 1-2 Weghorst (63’), 2-2 Petersen (70’), 2-3 Steffen (75’), 3-3 Waldschmidt (88’)
Jerome Roussillon combined with Josip Brekalo to give Wolfsburg a well-deserved early lead, but Freiburg levelled completely against the run of play thanks to an uncharacteristic error from John Brooks. The USA international lost possession to Florian Niederlechner, who slipped in Vincenzo Grifo to drive home one of the easiest goals he's likely to score.
Wolfsburg responded well as Christian Günter got a crucial block on an effort from Renato Steffen, before Wout Weghorst restored their lead from the penalty spot after being brought down by Robin Koch. Grifo turned provider for Nils Petersen as Freiburg hit back once again, but just when the Wolves thought they’d done enough for the win through Steffen, Waldschmidt fired in a late equaliser.
