Borussia Mönchengladbach have dismissed head coach Gerardo Seoane with immediate effect.

The move comes as a result of Gladbach's disappointing start to the new season, in which they have taken just one point from their first three Bundesliga assignments. Reserve-team coach Eugen Polanski will take over first-team duties in a caretaker capacity.

“After a comprehensive review of our start to the season, we’ve come to the conclusion that we need to make a change in the position of head coach,” said Roland Virkus, Gladbach's managing director for sport.

"After ten Bundesliga matches without a win, stretching across two seasons, we’ve lost the belief that a turnaround is possible with Gerardo.”

Gladbach began 2025/26 by squeezing past fifth-tier side Atlas Delmenhorst 3-2 in the first round of the DFB Cup.

That was followed by a goalless draw against Hamburg on the opening day of the Bundesliga season and defeats against VfB Stuttgart (1-0) and, most recently, a 4-0 humbling at home by Werder Bremen.

Alongside HSV, Gladbach are one of just two top-flight teams yet to score in the league this term.

Seoane, who was previously in charge of Bayer Leverkusen for 17 months from May 2021, took over the reins at Borussia-Park in July 2023.

He guided the Foals to a seventh-placed finish in his first campaign at the helm, but slipped down to 13th last season.

Overall, the 46-year-old recorded 25 wins, 20 draws and 33 defeats in his 78 competitve games with Gladbach.
