Bayer Leverkusen have announced that Gerard Seoane will be the club's new head coach from the end of the 2020/21 season.

Seoane, 42, has signed a three-year deal at the BayArena, taking over from interim coach Hannes Wolf who has held the reigns since Peter Bosz's departure from Leverkusen.

Seoane - a former Switzerland U21 international player - has been in charge at Young Boys since summer 2018, and is the only manager to win three titles in a row in the Swiss Super League and also the coach with the best points per game average in the league's history at 2.3 points per game. This season, Seoane's side have clinched the Swiss title with a 28-point lead over FC Basel.

"I find it extremely attractive to coach a Bundesliga squad with such potential," said Seoane. "In the very professional and ambitious environment here on the Rhine, I see ideal conditions to play attractive football and to be among the top teams in the league and in Europe. I'm really looking forward to this challenge!"

Seoane even knocked Leverkusen out of the Europa League at the last 32 stage, winning 6-3 on aggregate across the two legs.

Leverkusen clinched a spot in next season's UEFA Europa League on Matchday 33 with a 1-1 draw against Union Berlin, with Seoane able to look ahead to leading his new side into European competition in his first campaign with the club.
