Germany shared six goals with Ukraine last week in their first of three summer friendlies, before being beaten 1-0 by Poland, leaving them hungry for a win to conclude the 2022/23 season on a high. Ilkay Gündogan was rested for both those games after lifting the UEFA Champions League with Manchester City, but head coach Hansi Flick announced he would start in advance of the tie - and he takes the captain's armband in his home town, with Bayern Munich's Joshua Kimmich moved to the bench. Kai Havertz has earned another start, with the support of Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane of Bayern on the flanks, while Florian Wirtz (Bayer Leverkusen) is also on the bench.
Colombia are continuing to fire under Argentinian coach, Nestor Lorenzo. Since the tactician was appointed last year, the South American nation are unbeaten in seven games, winning five. Their latest triumph was a 1-0 win against Iraq in Valencia's Mestalla stadium last Friday, debutant Mateo Cassierra netting the all-important goal in the 76th minute. Los Cafeteros are currently gearing up for the start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, which they begin this September with games against Venezuela and Chile. Colombia are in Gelsenkirchen with three new faces in the international set-up, Andres Salazar, Oscar Cortes and the aforementioned Cassierra. Former Bayern man James Rodriguez - currently without a club - was overlooked for selection this time around.
