Germany have last eight in sight

Deniz Undav scored his first of three international goals when Germany drew 2-2 with the Netherlands in Amsterdam in September.

After a Deniz Undav brace brought a win in Bosnia, Julian Nagelsmann must consider whether to finetune his Germany side as they target a key win over the Netherlands in Munich on Monday (kick-off: 8.45pm CEST).

Latest

Julian Nagelsmann's Germany approach a tough test with the Netherlands in impressive form, unbeaten in three UEFA Nations League matches - or 12 matches in total if only regular time is considered (and the extra-time defeat to Spain in EURO 2024). The side seamlessly shook off the injury absence of several key players in a 2-1 win in Bosnia on Friday, with Deniz Undav netting two goals from the number 10 position and Tim Kleindienst leading the line well while having a strike disallowed. With Jamal Musiala and Kai Havertz injured, Nagelsmann is short of experienced attacking options so may well be inclined to stick with the forward set-up that succeeded in Bosnia. Further back, Aleksandar Pavlovic may see some playing time after remaining on the bench in Bosnia along with Nico Schlotterbeck - who started when the two sides drew 2-2 in Amsterdam in September. Oliver Baumann is set to make his international debut in goal with first-choice keeper Marc-André ter Stegen injured and Alexander Nübel to make way to the bench.

The Netherlands go into their third meeting with Germany in 2024 having won just one of the past six encounters with their neighbours and traditional international rivals. RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi is almost certain to be a key part of Ronald Koeman's attacking plans in Munich, with Borussia Dortmund's Donyell Malen seeing two late substitute appearances so far in the Nations League and the last of Bayer Leverkusen full-back Jeremie Frimpong's seven caps coming back at the summer's EURO. Leipzig defender Lutsharel Geertruida has also featured only from the bench this autumn. A number of former Bundesliga players could feature too in Matthijs de Ligt, Brian Brobbey, Ian Maatsen, Wout Weghorst and Mark Flekken.

Van Dijk suspended

The veteran defender will be unavailable for selection for this fixture as he serves a one game suspension, following his sending off (for two yellow cards) in the Netherlands' 1-1 draw with Hungary. This was Van Dijk's first red card of his international career.

Führich out

Stuttgart winger Chris Führich will miss the clash with the Netherlands having sustained an adductor injury in the win in Bosnia. He is likely to miss the next two or three weeks and therefore is also set to sit out his club side's next Bundesliga clash at Bayern Munich on Sunday 19 October.
