Captain Manuel Neuer has been named in a full-strength Germany squad by Hansi Flick for their UEFA Nations League matches against England and Hungary.

Neuer is joined by fellow goalkeepers Marc-Andre ter Stegen of Barcelona and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Kevin Trapp. There are regulars such as Bayern Munich’s Thomas Müller, Joshua Kimmich, Serge Gnabry, Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sane. Marco Reus and Jonas Hofmann were also among the 17 Bundesliga-based players to be named, but the former has had to withdraw through injury.

Borussia Dortmund centre-backs Nico Schlotterbeck and Niklas Süle are up against Freiburg rock Matthias Ginter. The surprise inclusion, however, is that of ex-Bochum and current Southampton defender Armel Bella Kotchap, who so far has nine caps for the U21s.

The final two games of the Nations League group stage are also Germany’s last matches before Flick has to name his final squad of 23-26 players on 13 November, ahead of kicking off their 2022 FIFA World Cup campaign against Japan on 23 November.

Germany are still unbeaten after 13 fixtures of the Flick era but currently trail Hungary in Group A3 after three draws and a historic 5-2 win over Italy. The game against the Magyars will be played at the Red Bull Arena in Leipzig on Friday 23 September.

They round out the group stage with a trip to Wembley to face the Three Lions on Monday 26 September. Both of the reverse fixtures ended in 1-1 draws.
