USA international Gio Reyna will wear the No.7 jersey for Borussia Dortmund this coming season, last worn by the Manchester United-bound Jadon Sancho.
The 18-year-old has donned No.32 until now, but following Sancho's departure to his native England, Reyna has now become the new owner of a shirt sported by some of the most fabled players in the club’s history.
Before Sancho, Ousmane Dembele mesmerized fans and opponents alike in the 2016/17 campaign while wearing the No.7, while previous incumbents also include Dortmund legends Shinji Kagawa (2014/15), Robert Lewandowski (2010/11) and Dortmund’s current sporting director Michael Zorc (1982/83).
Reyna has so far made 64 competitive appearances for BVB following his arrival as a 16-year-old from New York City FC in summer 2019. After a successful spell in the U19s he was fast-tracked into the first team under former head coach Lucien Favre and established himself as a valued member of the senior side in a stunning breakout campaign in 2020/21.
The attacking midfielder, who is able to operate as a central playmaker or from a position out wide, scored four goals in 32 Bundesliga outings last season and a further three in five DFB Cup matches to help BVB lift the trophy.

Reyna also became a full USA international last season and has, incidentally, worn the No.7 jersey for the Stars and Stripes on each of his eight caps to date.
