Gio Reyna is "doing an unbelievable job" at Borussia Dortmund, according to RB Leipzig midfielder and fellow American Tyler Adams.

Reyna continued his remarkable rise in professional football at the weekend by scoring his first ever Bundesliga goal in BVB's 3-0 triumph over Borussia Mönchengladbach, as well as winning a penalty that was converted by Erling Haaland.

It was the 17-year-old's second start in the club's second competitive game of the new season – with the likes of Germany internationals Marco Reus and Julian Brandt on the bench - having previously found the net in the 5-0 triumph over Duisburg in the first round of the DFB Cup.

And his displays have not gone unnoticed.

"It's unbelievable, his age says it all," USMNT midfielder Adams told bundesliga.com on Sunday after helping Leipzig to a 3-1 win against Mainz.

"For him to be breaking into such a strong team, such a strong attacking team, it's kudos to him. He's doing an unbelievable job right now. He has a great head on his shoulders, comes from a great family – a talented family – as well.

"We have big ambitions for him and we know he’s going to help the national team in the future."

Reyna, a US U17 youth international, was due to make his senior debut in March this year, before the coronavirus outbreak postponed fixtures around the globe. He remains very much in Gregg Berhalter’s plans, however, and the USMNT head coach has indicated that the Dortmund youngster will be included in his next roster.

BVB’s next game is away to Augsburg on Saturday, the very fixture in which Reyna made his top-flight debut in January this year. With Reus still working his way back to full fitness and fellow attacker Thorgan Hazard sidelined through injury for several weeks, Reyna looks set to be given his next chance to shine.
