Hamburg have signed centre-back Luka Vušković, the 18-year-old younger brother of fellow HSV player Mario Vušković, on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
The younger Vušković made his debut for Hajduk Split in February 2023 at the age of just 16 years and two days to become the joint youngest player in Croatian league history. He then joined Tottenham in September 2023 and, after loan spells at Radomiak Radom and Westerlo, is now seeking to make his mark on the Bundesliga.
Hamburg board member Stefan Kuntz said: "We've been working particularly hard on Luka in recent weeks and are very happy that he's decided to take the next step in his development at Hamburg. It will be important that we offer him an environment in which he can develop as well as possible."
Luka is the younger brother of 23-year-old Mario, who made 40 appearances for Hamburg in Bundesliga 2 after signing in 2021 but has not played since 2022 - and will be unable to do so until November 2026 - due to a doping suspension.
The new Vušković, who made his full international debut for Croatia in June, said: "I couldn't wait to get here. It's special for me to play for Hamburg, as my brother has already played here and told me a lot about the club, and also because of the club's history, the fans and the facilities here."
HSV kept a clean sheet away to Borussia Mönchengladbach in an impressive first performance back in the Bundesliga in a 0-0 draw and face a big Hamburg derby at home to St. Pauli to open Matchday 2 on Friday 29 August (kick-off: 8:30pm CEST).
