"Flick the right coach for Bayern" - Lewandowski

"Two wins from two!" Hansi Flick has enjoyed his temporary role as head coach of Bayern Munich.
"Two wins from two!" Hansi Flick has enjoyed his temporary role as head coach of Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich striker Robert Lewandowski believes that Hansi Flick has already done enough as interim head coach of the German champions to be given the job for longer.

Flick stepped into the breach when Niko Kovac parted company with the Bavarians earlier this month, and the 54-year-old has since overseen a 4-0 Klassiker victory over Borussia Dortmund as well as a UEFA Champions League success against Olympiacos.

Poland international Lewandowski scored in both those matches, and the four-time Bundesliga top goalscorer feels that Flick deserves a longer stay on the Bayern bench.

"I think that Hansi Flick is the right man," the 31-year-old told Polish TV channel TVN 24. "He has a chance of being our coach – at least until the end of the season."

Assistant to Joachim Löw when Germany won the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Flick stepped up from the same role at Bayern when Kovac departed following a 5-1 defeat at Eintracht Frankfurt on Matchday 10.

The former Bayern midfielder’s first game in charge saw his side book a place in the Champions League knockout stage with a 2-0 group-stage win over Olympiacos, before he then guided the team to a crucial Bundesliga victory over title rivals Dortmund.

Robert Lewandowksi beat Olympiacos goalkeeper Jose Sa all ends up to help give Hansi Flick a win in his first match in charge of Bayern Munich.

Lewandowski, who said he is in the best form of his career, scored once against the Greeks and twice against former club Dortmund to bring his tally to 23 goals for the season across all competitions. He has been impressed by what Flick has had to offer in his new role with the record champions.

"We have a good relationship with him," said Lewandowski, who has netted in all 11 Bundesliga matches this season. "His tactical and footballing knowledge are at a high level. In a short time, he showed us what we could work on in order to play better and to win matches."

Bayern currently sit third in the Bundesliga. They will return to action on 23 November with a trip to mid-table Fortuna Düsseldorf.
