Bayern Munich striker Harry Kane had warm words for Luis Díaz following his new Colombian teammate's positive debut on Saturday.

Díaz joined Bayern from defending English Premier League champions Liverpool, just three days before the 2-1 friendly win over Lyon at the Allianz Arena.

While Kane played the first half of the pre-season clash, Díaz was brought on at the break and played through the second period. He created several chances and won the penalty that allowed Michael Olise to give Bayern the lead, saying afterwards:  "I hope I can score in the next match. My aim is to help the team."

Kane said of Díaz's debut: "He did a great job today. We've only had a few training sessions together so far, but he looks hungry and eager. You can tell he's happy to be here."

Luis Díaz looked the perfect fit for Bayern in his debut against Lyon.

Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund was also impressed by Diaz's impact, adding: "He looked very fresh, getting three big chances in. From the very start, you could sense his joy. He’s here to have fun. He’s a very intense and industrious player, and we expect a lot of goals and assists from him."

Bayern have two more friendly matches ahead against Kane's former club Tottenham Hotspur and then Grasshoppers Zurich, before their first competitive match of 2025/26 in the curtain-raising Franz Beckenbauer Supercup against VfB Stuttgart on Saturday 16 August.
