Bielefeld take priceless point from the capital

Bielefeld were much improved following their 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Borussia Mönchengladbach, with defender Joakim Nilsson sending an early header wide from 10 yards. Manuel Prietl fired off a warning shot that whistled just wide of Alexander Schwolow's goal, before Hertha finally tested the visiting defence through Matheus Cunha, whose deflected shot landed in the arms of Stefan Ortega. The chances were coming thick and fast as Andreas Voglsammer pinged wide and Prietl forced a fingertip save from Schwolow. Jhon Cordoba returned fire for Hertha, but the Colombian's strike came back off the upright. Voglsammer and Cordoba traded further half openings to close a tense first half.

There was no let-up after the restart as Schwolow was called on to beat out a powerful Amos Pieper header, before gathering at the second attempt. Hertha lost top scorer Cunha to injury around the hour-mark, but not attacking intent. Javairo Dilrosun was sent on in place of the Brazilian, the former Manchester City youth player flashing an effort across goal from 20 yards soon after his introduction. The Hertha substitute tried his luck once more in the closing stages, but sent his effort straight at Ortega as the contest ended all square. The Old Lady stay 14th, level on 31 points with Werder Bremen and Bielefeld below them, albeit with a midweek trip to relegated Schalke in hand.
