Andrej Kramaric scored his sixth and seventh goals of the season as Hoffenheim ended Bayern Munich's 23-game winning run in emphatic fashion on Bundesliga Matchday 2.
Hoffenheim 4-1 Bayern Munich
Goals: 1-0 Bicakcic (16'), 2-0 Dabbur (24'), 2-1 Kimmich (36'), 3-1 Kramaric (77'), 4-1 Kramaric (pen. 90'+1)
Bayern named Robert Lewandowski on the bench less than 72 hours after claiming the UEFA Super Cup thanks to an extra-time win over Sevilla in Budapest. With a full week's rest behind them, Hoffenheim took full advantage. Christoph Baumgartner had already fired off a warning shot when Ermin Bicakcic powered a header from Dennis Geiger's corner past Manuel Neuer. The home side doubled up soon after when Kramaric - having tested Neuer moments earlier - drove over halfway and played a pass, via the boot of Benjamin Pavard, into the path of Munas Dabbur. The Israel international raced away, before showing tremendous composure to clip the ball over the advancing Neuer. Bayern reduced the arrears courtesy of Joshua Kimmich's unstoppable curling strike, but were fortunate not to fall further behind as Jerome Boateng denied Dabbur at close quarters and Neuer pushed a Kramaric rocket onto the crossbar.
The chances came thick and fast after the restart, with Dabbur whipping an effort past the upright and Leroy Sane testing Oliver Baumann. Bayern coach Hansi Flick turned to Lewandowski and Leon Goretzka in a bid to avert a first competitive defeat since December, but not before Baumann directed a Joshua Zirkzee header onto the woodwork. It was one of only two shots on target Bayern had mustered approaching the final 20 minutes, with Hoffenheim's intense pressing catching the quadruple winners off guard time and again. Bayern were indebted to Neuer for keeping the deficit to one, the world's No.1 denying Robert Skov with a trademark outstretched leg, but Hoffenheim soon got the breathing space their performance deserved. Pavel Kaderabek released Ihlas Bebou, whose low cross was met by a fine piece of control and finish from Kramaric for his fifth league goal of the campaign. The Croatia international completed his brace with an injury-time penalty as former Bayern reserves coach Sebastian Hoeneß celebrated a famous win.
