Hoffenheim ended their three-game losing Bundesliga home streak with a 3-1 victory over Heidenheim on Matchday 8. While the result brought welcome relief, the Sinsheim outfit also showed their support for Breast Cancer Awareness month.
Heidenheim's visit to the PreZero Arena was the fourth home game of the campaign for Christian Ilzer's side. Yet, despite picking up 10 points in their opening four matches on the road, Hoffenheim were still without a point in front of their own supporters. As such, their 3-1 triumph over Frank Schmidt's struggling outfit came as a welcome relief.
The hosts were particularly efficient in the final third, as they moved up into seventh in the standings.
"We are all very happy to finally win at home. Now we want to back that up with strong performances in the DFB Cup [against St. Pauli on Tuesday] and next weekend's Bundesliga clash [at Wolfsburg]," said Fisnik Asllani, who opened the scoring on Satutday.
In the midst of their victory, Hoffenheim were eager to highlight Breast Cancer Awareness month. Instead of the players walking onto the pitch with young mascots before the match, both sets of teams were instead joined by breast cancer patients and employees of the breast centre at the GRN Clinic in Sinsheim.
The club also shared two important messages with their supporters: 'Together against breast cancer' and 'One club, one symbol, one message'.
There were several stands outside the stadium sharing information about breast cancer, while the players wore special pink shirts with the breast cancer awareness logo as the main sponsor. The jerseys worn by the players will now be sold at auction, with the proceeeds going to the GRN Clinik.
All in all, it was an important day both on and off the pitch for Hoffenheim. They will now look to build on this return to winning ways on home turf and try and make their PreZero Arena a fortress once more.
