Sancho: "Reus, Hazard and I have a great connection"

Jadon Sancho and Marco Reus both got a goal and an assist each in Borussia Dortmund‘s 4-0 away win over Mainz.

Borussia Dortmund's teenage sensation Jadon Sancho says he and fellow Borussia Dortmund attackers Marco Reus and Thorgan Hazard have forged an excellent relationship that is paying dividends on the pitch.

Given the performance the Black and Yellows put in against Mainz on Saturday, it's hard not to agree. All three got their names on the scoresheet in a 4-0 victory, with BVB captain Reus opening the scoring in the first half before Sancho doubled the lead just past the hour mark.

Three minutes later, Reus turned provider for Hazard to put the result beyond doubt as Dortmund proved too hot to handle for the hosts. With less than ten minutes remaining, Sancho got an assist of his own when he teed up Nico Schulz for his first goal of the season.

"The front three – me, Thorgan and Marco – have got a good connection and we work on it on the training pitch," the 19-year-old England international told bundesliga.com after BVB's 4-0 away win over Mainz.

"We come here like today and we show our skills. We help each other and we score together, so it’s good."

There's no denying that and this latest defence-undoing performance further underlined Sancho's reputation as one of the most dangerous attacking players in world football, despite being just 19.

He now has 11 goals and 12 assists in 22 competitive club outings this term, becoming the first player in Europe's top five leagues to reach double figures in both categories.

Yet as impressive as Dortmund's attacking display was, midfield maestro Julian Brandt was equally pleased with the team's robustness at the other end of the pitch, proving they can do the dirty work, too:

"It was good for us to show that we can stay solid at the back, even in these hard-fought games, which we're bound to have more of in the future."

The result takes Dortmund up to third place in the Bundesliga table, two ahead of Bayern Munich and four points off the top spot.
