Jamie Bynoe-Gittens signs new Borussia Dortmund contract

Just days after turning 18 and scoring his first Bundesliga goal in the 3-1 win over Freiburg, the European U19 champion has now signed a fresh deal with Dortmund that will keep him at the club until 2025.

Bynoe-Gittens, who made his Bundesliga debut in April, said that Dortmund's faith in him "means a lot."

"It was always my goal to continue on the path I felt I had just started at BVB after Covid and a few injuries at the beginning," the exciting winger told the club website on Tuesday.

"Now I can't wait to keep working hard on myself and my game to hopefully be able to help the team in the months and years to come."

Dortmund sporting director Sebastian Kehl praised the "exciting development" of Bynoe-Gittens and predicted that there was plenty more to come.

"Jamie has always been characterised by speed and creativity," Kehl said. "With his unpredictability in one-v-ones he gives our squad a very special element even at a very young age. It's fun to watch him work on himself and his game. We're a long way from the end of that development and we will give him the necessary time for it."

Hailed as a "game changer" by BVB head coach Edin Terzic, Bynoe-Gittens saved his team on Matchday 2 at Freiburg. The teenager came off the bench in the second half to score an equaliser, and his thrilling run then helped create the crucial second goal for fellow teenager Youssoufa Moukoko.

Bynoe-Gittens, who joined Dortmund in September 2020, missed the first few months of last season due to an ankle injury. He has since made six appearances for the club in all competitions following his debut against Wolfsburg.
