Jonas Wind netted a brace during Wolfsburg's 3-1 victory over Bochum on Saturday afternoon, but it was his second strike that continued a rather peculiar trend involving the Denmark international and penalties.
Wolfsburg were good value for their victory over Bochum at the Vonovia Ruhrstadion. They were particularly ruthless in the first half, scoring from their opening two shots on targets. First, Tiago Tomás hammered a fierce strike home on the turn, before Wind acrobatically volleyed past Patrick Drewes from Mohamed Amoura's cross.
After the interval, Bochum showed signs of life, and even halved the deficit through Myron Boadu's second goal for the club. However, a second Wind effort, his third in two games, secured the points for Ralph Hasenhüttl's men.
Wolfsburg's centre-forward enjoyed a touch of fortune as he completed his brace. The visitors were awarded a penalty when Ibrahima Sissoko brought down the dangerous Amoura in the area, but Wind's initial spot-kick was saved by Drewes. It was only on the rebound that he eventually found the back of the net.

Curiously, that is the third time such a situation has arisen since his switch to Wolfsburg from Copenhagen in January 2022, and the second against Bochum. First, in April 2023, Manuel Riemann thwarted the Dane from 12 yards before Luca Waldschmidt put in the second attempt, while Kevin Trapp did the same for Eintracht Frankfurt five months later prior to Wind mopping up. Even more remarkably, those are the only three penalties he has taken for the club, suggesting this is all part of some elaborate plan to keep opposition goalkeepers on their toes.
In the grander scheme of things, this victory is an important one for Wolfsburg, who end a run of three Bundesliga games without a win. Bochum, meanwhile, are bottom of the division with just one point to their name after six matchdays.
