Joshua Kimmich: "I haven't reached my full potential yet"

Germany midfielder Joshua Kimmich wants to win UEFA Euro 2020 before improving even further under new Bayern Munich boss Julian Nagelsmann.

Bayern Munich star Joshua Kimmich is confident he can get even better - but is concentrating on helping Germany win UEFA Euro 2020 rather than any personal accolades.

Long-time club teammate Javi Martinez recently praised Kimmich as the best No. 6 in the game, while the champions' outgoing coach and future Germany boss Hansi Flick suggested the midfielder has the ability to become the world's best player.

Current Germany coach Joachim Löw will be counting on some big performances from Kimmich at this month's European Championship before incoming Bayern supremo Julian Nagelsmann later gets to work with him.

"I think that I can still take another few steps in my development," Kimmich told reporters from the German camp.

"I'm obviously looking forward to the new coach at Bayern, because you can learn something new… I haven't fulfilled my potential yet. There's still a lot possible."

As for whether Nagelsmann can shape the 26-year-old to the point where he will officially be recognised as the world's best footballer - following on from Bayern striker Roert Lewandowski - Kimmich said he has other prizes in mind.

"I'm not the type of footballer who goes on the pitch and says 'that's my big ambition,'" he said.

"The priority for me is that we're successful as a team. We have big plans, especially with the national team.

"Last year I managed to win the Champions League with Bayern, but I haven't won any major titles with the national team apart from the [2017] Confederations Cup. And for now [winning Euro 2020] is the really big goal."

Kimmich is one of eight Bayern players in the Germany squad - and among 14 overall - who will feature at this summer's tournament. A star-studded Germany selection will play their first Euro 2020 match on 15 June against world champions France in Munich.
