Julian Nagelsmann makes historic 100th appearance

Julian Nagelsmann has broken all manner of records since taking charge of Hoffenheim.

Julian Nagelsmann became the youngest coach in history to reach 100 Bundesliga appearances when his Hoffenheim side hosted record champions Bayern Munich on Friday.

The 31-year-old has taken less than three years to reach the milestone, after assuming the role of Hoffenheim head coach in February 2016 following veteran tactician Huub Stevens' resignation due to health reasons.

Hoffenheim were 17th at the time, but Nagelsmann - the Bundesliga's youngest permanent coach at 28 - closed a seven-point deficit to steer the club to safety. He lifted Die Kraichgauer to fourth place in his first full season in charge, qualifying them for a maiden European campaign, before going one better in 2017/18 as the Sinsheim outfit finished third to secure UEFA Champions League group stage football for the first time.

In his 100 Bundesliga matches to date, Nagelsmann - whose playing career with 1860 Munich was ended by injury at 20 - has collected 165 points. Only Bayern and current Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund have fared better in that time, while Nagelsmann boasts the best points-per-game average (1.65) of all active Bundesliga coaches.

Julian Nagelsmann is only 12 years older than Arsenal loanee Reiss Nelson.

Hoffenheim's record-breaker

Nagelsmann is also Hoffenheim's longest-serving coach in the top flight, having reached that particular milestone at 85 Bundesliga appearances, and has the best win ratio of any of his predecessors (W44, D33, L23). Sixteen of those victories came during 2016/17, when Hoffenheim amassed a club-record 66 points for a single campaign. Earlier this season, meanwhile, he became the youngest coach in UEFA Champions League history, aged 31 years and 58 days.

Hoffenheim sit seventh in the standings halfway into Nagelsman's third and final full season as coach. In summer 2018, it was announced that he will join Bundesliga rivals RB Leipzig at the end of 2018/19.
