Former USA head coach Jürgen Klinsmann has been appointed to the board of Bundesliga club Hertha Berlin.
Klinsmann, who coached the USMNT between 2011 and 2016, guiding them to the knockout stages of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, will sit on Hertha’s supervisory board and will make his first public appearance in his new role at the Old Lady's Matchday 11 fixture with RB Leipzig.
"I'm delighted to become part of the most exciting football project in Europe," Klinsmann told the club's official website. "Furthermore, it's a club I'm emotionally invested in."
Klinsmann's son Jonathan played for the Bundesliga club between 2017 and 2019 and made a significant penalty save on his debut in a UEFA Europa League draw with Ostersunds, before moving to Swiss club St. Gallen in the summer.
His late father Sigfried grew up in the German capital and was a fan of Hertha, while Jürgen has long since been an honorary member of the club. Furthermore, Klinsmann is the co-founder of the International Silverlakes Cup – a youth tournament, which Hertha were invited to in its inaugural 2018 edition.

Klinsmann, 55, returns to an active role at a Bundesliga club for the first time since being dismissed as coach of Bayern Munich a decade ago. The former striker, who scored 110 goals in 221 Bundesliga appearances for VfB Stuttgart and Bayern, in addition to 47 goals in 108 games for Germany, was proposed for the role by Lars Windhorst, the chairman of TENNOR Holding B.V. – the club's largest investor.
"In all the talks I had with Lars Windhorst, I could feel the enthusiasm, delight and trust from all those involved and I'm convinced that I can help make this a successful partnership with my experience and also with my network," added Klinsmann.
