Eintracht Frankfurt's Kevin Trapp has made a sooner-than-expected recovery from shoulder surgery and could be back in goal against Hoffenheim on Bundesliga Matchday 18.

Eintracht Frankfurt goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has resumed first-team training following injury.

Trapp, 29, has not played since undergoing surgery to repair torn shoulder ligaments suffered in Frankfurt’s 2-1 win at Union Berlin on 27 September 2019, but has travelled with the squad for their warm-weather training camp in Florida, USA.

"I’m feeling in top condition again," Trapp told Frankfurter Rundschau. "I wasn’t expecting to be back so soon. It’s record-breaking (laughs). It almost feels better than it did before [the injury]."

Trapp credits his decision to spend two weeks undergoing daily specialist treatment at the Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar for his accelerated recovery. "It’s the best therapy going!" the former Paris Saint-Germain stopper said of his November rehabilitation programme.

The three-time Germany international's return comes as a timely boost for Frankfurt. The Eagles are through to the knockout stages of the UEFA Europa League and DFB Cup, but took just eight points from the 11 Bundesliga matches their first-choice keeper missed.

Trapp could make his comeback when Frankfurt take on Hertha Berlin in the mid-season Florida Cup on 9 January.

Adi Hütter's side resume their Bundesliga campaign with a trip to Hoffenheim nine days later, sitting just three points above the relegation play-off spot following a run of seven games without a win and defeats in their last three.
