Bundesliga
After landing at the Allianz Arena as Bayern Munich's newest attacking gem, Luis Díaz's storied career is presented in bundesliga.com's five bite-sized pieces.
Startling start
Diaz's talent was such that he was snapped up by Atlético Junior following a trial by the club for players based in Colombia's northern region, despite the player - who was 18 at the time - weighing under 50kg and with plenty of bulking up to do.
"He didn't look like much at first glance, which is why he hadn’t attracted attention before," Octavio Rivera - Atlético's director of youth football - said in an interview with Sky Sports.
"It happens with a lot of young players in Colombia. They don’t have the conditions they need to develop adequately because of poor nutrition and a lack of financial support," Rivera continued.
"He was very thin, but he had abnormal levels of stamina and energy for a kid of his age and he shone above all the others because of his dribbling ability, his feints, his speed and his character. He excelled in all of those areas."
Making progress
Díaz featured for a Colombia team coached by national legend Carlos Valderrama at the Copa America of Indigenous Peoples in Chile in 2015.
Under close scrutiny in terms of diet, supplementation and weight training, the winger continued to develop during a loan spell at Barranquilla while later, when back at Atlético Junior, he exploded onto the scene in 2018, finishing as a runner up at the Copa Sudamericana and earning a first senior cap with Colombia.

Porto calling
A speed demon who excels cutting in from the left flank and delivering or shooting with his right foot, Díaz's path to Europe was set and he rocked up at FC Porto on 10 July 2019.
The Colombian fit right in with the Portuguese giants and quickly became a fan favourite at the Estádio do Dragão, where his dazzling displays helped to produce a league and cup double in 2020 and another Primera Liga triumph in 2022.
In all he scored 41 goals and provided 19 assists for Porto and on leaving for Liverpool, said, "I feel like one more dragon and I will carry [Porto] in my blue and white heart. Thanks to my teammates, because in football, nothing can be done alone."
Joining Jürgen Klopp
The ex-Mainz and Borussia Dortmund coach was so eager to sign Díaz and fend off several other suitors, including Tottenham Hotspur, that the German moved for the then 25-year-old Díaz mid-season.
It seemed that no sooner had the attacker become the first Colombian to sign for Liverpool that he was soon appearing in a UEFA Champions League final and winning FA Cup and English League Cup honours for the Reds.
He would go on to become only the second Colombian ever to win the English Premier League when Liverpool were crowned top-flight champions in 2024/25.

Kidnapping scare
With the Colombian public holding huge fondness for Díaz - who has racked up 63 caps for his country, along with scoring 18 goals and reaching the 2024 Copa America final - there was huge shock nationwide and among the wider footballing community when the player's parents were kidnapped by a guerrilla group in Barrancas in October 2023.
Díaz's mother - Cilenis Marulanda - was quickly rescued, but his father was forced to endure around two weeks in captivity. The group responsible for the kidnapping released Luis Manuel Díaz Jiménez that November, leading to an emotional reunion with wife and son Luis.
Liverpool subsequently flew both parents to England so they could spend Christmas 2023 with their son.
