Bayern Munich attacker Luis Díaz helped Colombia seal qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 3-0 win over Bolivia.
Díaz played 87 minutes of Colombia's comfortable win over Bolivia in Barranquilla and laid on the assist for Juan Quintero to make it 3-0.
That was his seventh goal involvement in 10 World Cup qualifiers for Colombia, who are fifth out of ten CONMEBOL national teams with one round of qualifying matches remaining - enough to see them progress to next summer's finals in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
The 28-year-old Bayern player said afterwards: “I’m really happy about what we’ve achieved. It’ll be my first time at a World Cup. I’m very moved by it."
A successful international break seems fitting for Díaz after he started the Bundesliga season in highly promising fashion with two goals and two assists in his first two matches in Germany following his signing from Liverpool in the summer.
Colombia face a trip to neighbouring Venezuela to wrap up their qualifying campaign on Wednesday morning German time (1:30 CEST) before Díaz will link up with his Bayern team-mates as they resume their Bundesliga title defence at home to Hamburg on Matchday 3 on Saturday 13 September.
