Bayern swoop for Luis Díaz

Bayern Munich have announced the signing of talented Colombian attacker Luis Díaz from Liverpool on a deal through 2029.

The move for the 28-year-old versatile player offers the record champions an important reinforcement in their forward line after the recent departures of Leroy Sané and Thomas Müller and with Jamal Musiala out of action with an injury for the medium term.

"With Luis Díaz, we have succeeded in signing one of the best left wingers in the Premier League," Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen said after the club confirmed the exciting move.

"He brings outstanding quality from Liverpool FC to FC Bayern – he has won titles with each of his clubs," Dreesen added. "... we are looking forward to a top international player who will give our team important impetus and also enrich the Bundesliga.

Díaz won Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup honours during a successful three-and-a-half season spell at Liverpool, the club he joined from Portuguese giants FC Porto in January 2022.

"Luis Díaz is an internationally experienced player with tremendous quality, great skills, and great reliability; he will help our team immediately," Bayern sporting director Max Eberl said, adding, "Our fans can look forward to an exceptional player."

A Colombia international on 64 occasions, the Barrancas native excels wide on the left but can also be deployed on the opposite flank and through the middle as a second striker. He leaves Anfield a fan favourite having weighed in with 41 goals and 23 assists in almost 150 appearances for the Reds.

"I'm very happy, it means a lot to me to be part of FC Bayern – it's one of the biggest clubs in the world," Díaz beamed after signing with the record champions. "I want to help my new team with my style of football and my personality. My goal is to win every possible title – we as a team will work towards that every day."

Díaz can look forward to a Franz Beckenbauer Supercup season curtain raiser when Bayern visit Stuttgart on 16 August. The Bavarian giants start the defence of their Bundesliga title with an opening game against RB Leipzig at the Allianz Arena six days later.
