Marcus Ingvartsen scored twice as Mainz held Eintracht Frankfurt to a 2-2 draw at their MEWA Arena on Saturday.
Mainz 2-2 Eintracht Frankfurt
Goals: 1-0 Ingvartsen (10'), 1-1 Tuta (26'), 1-2 Borre 35' (assist: Knauff), 2-2 Ingvartsen 49' (assist: Stach)
Frankfurt were surprisingly at full-strength ahead of their UEFA Europa League final against Rangers on Wednesday, but despite being on a high from their continental exploits, they fell behind early on when Ingvartsen got the break of the ball in the box and thrashed home for 1-0. Frankfurt were soon back on level terms, though, with Tuta in the right place at the right time to capitalise on a Filip Kostic free-kick into the box. The visitors began to click as the half wore on, though, and when Ansgar Knauff slipped Rafel Borre in for a chance on goal the Colombian made no mistake with his eighth goal of the campaign.
Mainz got back onto level terms soon after the restart. Recent Germany international Anton Stach darted down the right wing and curt back for Ingvartsen, who finished with aplomb. Oliver Glasner made a number of changes on the hour, with half an eye on Wednesday's final, but it was opposition full-back Daniel Brosinski's substitution for Nicolas Tauer soon after which got the biggest reception from the stands, the 33-year-old bringing down the curtain on eight years with the 05ers. Mainz thought they'd snatched the win when Jonny Burkardt scrambled over the line, but it was ruled out for a foul on Kevin Trapp and it ended honours even.
