Bayern Munich captain Manuel Neuer is on the mend following a broken leg.

The Bayern and Germany goalkeeper is taking part in team training again in his comeback from a broken leg.

Neuer was ruled out for the rest of the 2022/23 season after fracturing the tibia and fibula in his right leg whilst skiing during the winter break. However, after the goalkeeper returned to individual training in May, he has finally been able to return to the parts of the regular Bayern training fold in September ahead of the champions' eagerly awaited clash with RB Leipzig.

Neuer said: "It's a great feeling to be back with my team-mates on the pitch. I was really pleased."

Neuer, who is widely considered the greatest goalkeeper in football history, made 16 competitive appearances earlier in the season, as well as three for Germany at the 2022 World Cup. A Bayern player since summer 2011, the Schalke-schooled custodian has turned out 488 times in all competitions for the record champions, conceding 384 goals whilst keeping 233 clean sheets. He is contracted to the Bavarians until 30 June 2024.

Reacting to their captain's long-term absence, Bayern signed Switzerland No.1 Yann Sommer from Bundesliga rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach, but he departed in the summer after Bayern secured an 11th straight Bundesliga title. Sven Ulreich has kept goal for Bayern in the opening six matches of the 2023/24 season, keeping two clean sheets.
